ELDER LAW
This is a relatively new area of practice for attorneys and is the only area of law that is defined not by the subject matter but by the client being represented. Elder law attorneys are advocates for the elderly and their loved ones. Elder law attorneys handle a wide range of legal matters affecting an older or disabled persons, including issues related to health care, long term care planning, guardianship, retirement, Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, and other important matters. So there is an enormous overlap with estate planning. My office primarily helps clients plan for long term care including Medicaid. As a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Connecticut Bar Association Section on Elder Law, we have a vast network of attorneys that we can recommend if you have an elder law issue that is outside of our normal area of practice.
